Outdoor Clothes - Having the correct kind before you start your walk is essential to having a great time in nature. Make sure you have the proper outdoor clothes before you take your first step on your walk.
When you get the idea to go for a walk, you will want to make sure to have the proper outdoor clothes. A good place to begin when you start collecting your outdoor clothes is with the boots and socks. If your feet are wet and hurt, there is no fun in what you are doing.
You will want the boots to be light weight, sturdy, water proof, comfortable, and have a good tread. Smooth soles can make for slippery footing (trust us on this one, landing on your back with your feet up in the air may be amusing for your friends, but it generally hurts when you hit the ground). The socks you add to your outdoor clothes need to be breathable and of a material that wicks water away from your feet to help keep them dry.
The pants you will be using as part of your ensemble of outdoor clothes need to be made of a tough fabric, have plenty of pockets (some of us have been known to put extra goodies in our pockets that our wives don't know about - it can ruin the diet but they taste good), and be roomy.
Additional items to add to your growing pile of outdoor clothes are shirts with either long sleeves or short sleeves depending on the weather, preferably with pockets, and made of material that wicks water away from the body. For those of us with a distinct lack of a natural head covering (in other words - bald) an appropriate hat (beanie, baseball style, pullover type, sombrero type, your favorite) to help us look very distinguished is appropriate to add to your outdoor clothes pile.
The next articles to consider adding to your outdoor clothes collection would be a jacket or coat, preferably breathable, collared, with a drawstring hem, and made of a windproof shell type material. (For those who get cold easily, a pair of long johns where the material is the type that wicks water away from the skin.)
Only a few more items of outdoor clothes to go and you will be ready to get going and have some fun out in nature. The last couple of items to consider are gloves which are lined or unlined depending on the weather and not tight fitting. You will also want to add to the list of outdoor clothes a pair of sunglasses that are lightweight and polarized and a good brand of sunscreen for those who burn and with enough for the entire trip with a high enough SPF to be effective.
The last item to consider adding to your outdoor clothes collection is some type of rain gear. This does not need to be heavy. A good pair of water proof shells (top and bottom) will do nicely.
There are always good reference materials about the proper outdoor clothes that will be needed on your walk.
