Backpacking Info

In the beginning there was a definition: Backpacking is accomplished by adding an overnight stay to a hiking event. Obviously, this will require a little bit more gear than a brown paper bag with your lunch in it. Therefore, we hope to provide some useful backpacking info for your use.

There are several various aspects that need to be covered before you start out on your first overnight trek. Basic backpacking info on the Physical Conditioning level needed to have a safe journey, the types of Food that are available and useful on your trip, the types of Gear that are available and some great ideas on the types of Routes to pick when you are just getting started.

Put this all together and you can have a great time in nature - especially when pondering the imponderables, such as: If bullets bounce off Superman why does he duck when they throw the gun at him?

Time in nature's solitude is needed to obtain answers to such a burning questions!

Just Starting Out

When you are just starting out in this new adventure on your first few hikes, you will want to make them easy.  Success is what you are initially after and having a good time all at the same time.  The inclination of many new hikers when they are just starting out the first few times is to try a route or a distance that is too hard or too long.  You will need to pay attention to many different items all at the same time on those first few hikes.  A list of some of those items to keep track of is included here:

• Shoes or boots do not cause blisters or hot spots,

• Socks do not lump up in your footwear,

• Clothing is the right weight (not to hot or too cold),

• Correctly fitting head gear, sun glasses,

• Sufficient amount of water taken along or a way to purify more if needed,

• Sunscreen and/or bug repellant works correctly.
