Backpacking Tent - The right size and weight can make your overnight stay in nature an absolute delight. And a whole lot of fun, too!
If your trek is going to last overnight or there is a possibility that you may be caught out in bad weather, then you will want a good backpacking tent. There are a large variety available to choose from in a wide price range. You may want a small lightweight one to take along.
If you are in a group, a larger backpacking tent may be appropriate. As you are getting ready for your little excursion into the great wild outdoors, it is a good idea to divide up the weight being carried. It can be as simple as the bigger person takes the backpacking tent and the smaller person takes the poles, stakes, and ropes.
When selecting the backpacking tent you intend to purchase, there are several items to consider:
You do not want to have a backpacking tent that will not protect you. You don't need to go overboard on the price, but at the same time, get the backpacking tent that you will really need.
If climate and animals are not an issue, the cheapest, easiest way we have gone is by using a tarp. This is the easiest backpacking tent around. It also works well as a lean-to and a dining fly. It may sound silly, but it works!
Lay it on the ground, you lay down next to one of the edges with about 1 1/2 feet below your feet and 1 1/2 feet next to your side, fold the bottom up over your feet, grab the edge at your side and then roll so it wraps up around you. You then pull the top edge down over your face to keep the bugs and rain (if it is expected) off of your face.
Regardless of the style, color, brand, and size of backpacking tent you get, pick the one that will work for you.
